Come Boldly

Hebrews 4:15-16 KJV
For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

Hebrews 4:14-16 MSG
Now that we know what we have - Jesus, this great High Priest with ready access to God - let's not let it slip through our fingers. We don't have a priest who is out of touch with our reality. He's been through weakness and testing, experienced it all - all but the sin. So let's walk right up to him and get what he is so ready to give. Take the mercy, accept the help.

It's a common occurrence, I go about doing kitchen work while talking to my husband. I ask him a question. No answer. I look over and he was never listening. He is just looking at his phone. Oblivious to the fact that I am talking to him. Or maybe just being unintentionally rude.

I snap at him that he is always on his phone. Why doesn't he ever listen? Why is he so rude. He snaps back telling me that I never got his attention. What do I expect. When we are being reasonable we just laugh it off and move on. When we are already grumpy it escalates.

Either way . . .  I end up feeling guilty and bad because I know I have my part in it. I know I could've given him grace. I could have been more understanding and just called for his attention and just repeated myself. It's not that hard to repeat myself. It is a lot harder, energy-wise, to get into an argument. But, frustrated me doesn't alway think that way.

But when I feel "wrong" like this, I find that I avoid God. Like he will be mad at me and not understand. But the bible says he does understand. No, Jesus did not sin. But, he understands why we do the things we do. Jesus was able to navigate through this life without sin.

So, if we think it is a good idea to go to our makeup guru for makeup advice. Our diet guru for diet advice. Why do we sometimes find it so hard to go to Jesus, our life guru, for life advice? Maybe it's our pride. Maybe it's because we know what he wants us to do and we don't want to do it. I don't know. But if we ever want to get out of any negative cycles we maybe stuck in (it does't matter what problem you are stuck in) he has the best advice. Don't avoid him! Come boldly!
