Living with an Eye for Opportunity part 2:
The Opportunity to Serve

I am a stay at home mom. I am married to a wonderful man and have four awesome children. But, sometimes,the daily routine of cooking and cleaning, dishes and laundry - all of it can seem so tedious and pointless.

At times in my life, things have started to feel so . . . mundane. I remember during one of these times calling out to God and saying, "God I want to do something. I want to live for you. I want to be radical and reckless. I want to live a life of purpose and meaning."

One night, shortly after, one of my daughters was sick and was keeping me up all night. As I sat there holding her in my arms I felt the Holy Spirit speak to my heart Matthew 25:40.

Matthew 25:40
Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.

He said, you want to live for me? You want to do for me? What you are doing now is for me. Loving and taking care of your child is loving me.

I can not tell you how much meaning and joy this revelation has brought to my life. When I remember that all these little, and sometimes demeaning, jobs are not only for the Lord but appreciated by him, it adds purpose and joy to them. It adds purpose and joy to life.

Maybe you are not a stay at home mom. Maybe you go to work instead. So, as you deal with the incompetence of your coworkers or boss, once again, rather than getting frustrated, imagine the Lord saying thank you and appreciating you, as you deal with them in patience.

Seeing life this way: wiping up messy faces and cleaning the smudges on the mirrors no longer annoys me but rather gives me an opportunity to serve the Lord with joy when things are good or bad. The difficult times will come: the messes and the spills or the missed deadlines and lost emails. We can not avoid these things from happening! But we can live through them with an eye for opportunity.

Colossians 3:23
And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men;

Galatians 6:9
And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.

Hebrews 6:10
For God is not unrighteous to forget your work and labour of love, which ye have shewed toward his name, in that ye have ministered to the saints, and do minister.

Hebrews 10:34-35
For ye had compassion of me in my bonds, and took joyfully the spoiling of your goods, knowing in yourselves that ye have in heaven a better and an enduring substance. Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompence of reward.
