Watermelon Seeds

We have been doing some gardening lately. I sprouted some watermelon seeds in a tray. They were growing nicely so my husband and I decided it was time to transplant them into our garden.

The plants were still small. Just a few inches high. But we prepared a large area for them to grow and spread out. Why? Because they were watermelon plants and we know that they could become very large.

As we came inside, I felt like the Lord said to me: we plan for the growth of the watermelon plants but then we don’t plan for our own growth.

You see: the watermelon plants could only grow as we gave them space to grow. I started the watermelon plants in a seed tray. Each plant just had a small cell and were limited by the cells size for their growth. Once we put the seeds into the ground their potential expanded greatly.

We may be putting in some effort but are we giving ourselves room to grow to our full potential? What can we do to give ourselves space to expand and do more in the areas God is calling us?

Heavenly Father. Help us to find our identity in you and see the greatness in ourselves so that we can bear fruit for your kingdom. Give us vision and direction so that we do not limit ourselves and our missions on earth. In the name of Jesus, Amen.
