Do It Tired

What are those things in your life that you know you should do but “don’t have the energy?”

Exercise?

Writing a book?

Starting a ministry or non-profit?

We wait for a burst of energy. Like we will somehow desire to do it and that will push us. My husband and I were talking the other day. Those early morning runs when we were training for our races. Sometimes 6 am, sometimes 4 am, we never woke up feeling like we needed to run. We didn’t feel tired of sleeping and have this insatiable need to run. Nope, didn’t happen. Commitment and self-discipline  got us out the door. Never energy and desire. But something amazing happens when you show up - what you need to get the job done meets you there. Two minutes into running you suddenly realize you are alive and full of energy. It is sort of an inertia of life that keeps you going if you are willing to get started.

It makes me think of Elijah in 1 Kings chapter 17. The Lord told him to leave and hide in the Kerith Ravine, east of Jordan. God told him to drink from the brook and that ravens would supply his food. Just like Elijah, if you are divinely called to do something, you will also have the supply you need to be able to carry it out.

You may think you don't have the energy. You don't have the ability. You don't have the power. But I say do it tired - and if you do, you will see what I have learned. You are able to do so much more than you give yourself credit for.
