"I write only when inspiration strikes. Fortunately it strikes every morning at nine o'clock sharp." W. Somerset Maugham

Do you ever get a nagging feeling that you should do something but you really can't explain why. I have felt like that about writing. I feel like I should do it more often but it is not urgent so it is easily put off. I think there is this fallacy that is easy to fall into. There is always tomorrow. But is there really? One day I am going to run out of "tomorrows" and I want to be certain that whatever it is that I was meant to write gets written.

I am committing myself to write for 30 days in a row. I know not everyone is like me but I am very much motivated by these types of challenges. So, here I am writing on day 4 and it is not anywhere near the time I usually like to write. It is 4:27 pm and I am holding a baby and listening to cartoons play in the background but I have made this commitment to myself and I will not let myself down.

I find it much easier to write in the morning. Not necessarily because I am bothered by noise or others but because I find it easier to write as part of a morning routine before I get distracted by life or the endless array of entertainment. I think it is helpful to "eat that frog."

As famously accredited to Mark Twain, the quote says "If it's your job to eat a frog, it's best to do it first thing in the morning. And if it's your job to eat two frogs, it's best to eat the biggest one first." There is a book by Brian Tracy that expounds on the principle but the gist is that we get our most difficult tasks taken care of early before our motivation for the day wanes. This is why I like to write and get my exercise done early. It is definitely helpful and I will try to do some more "frog eating" early in my day.
