God Loves the Living and the Dying

Psalm 39:4 NLT
Lord, remind me how brief my time on earth will be.
Remind me that my days are numbered -
how fleeting my life is.

psalm 71:9 NLT
And now, in my old age, don't set me aside.
Don't abandon me when my strength is failing.

You don't really know Jesus is all you need until Jesus is all you have. - Timothy Keller

I've thought a lot about death and dying. What will the process be like? When will it happen. I live a busy life and I wonder what it will be like when I have no choice but to slow down.

I believe death helps us put life into perspective. We realize life is short. We realize he is with us. We realize we need his mercy. And maybe our abilities aren't as great and dramatic as we thought they were but his are exceedingly greater than we thought they were.

I think so many of us relate to God trying to "do" for him. We serve others to serve him. But what about when we can no longer "do" anything for him? When we become less "useful," will he love us any less? Do you love your children any less because it is night and not day? I may not alway be useful or able like I am now. But, I will never be pointless because God loves me and that is purpose enough. We will always be precious and valuable in his eyes no matter what we are in our physical bodies. That is why Jesus died on the cross to save us.
