Words Are Important

Matthew 12:36 KJV

But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.

Matthew 12:36 - 37 MSG

. . . Let me tell you something: Every one of these careless words is going to come back to haunt you. There will be a time of Reckoning. Words are powerful; take them seriously. Words can be your salvation. Words can also be your damnation.

As I read this, I wonder, are we truly taking our words as seriously as this verse tells us to? The other day I watched a video where a man said he died and met Jesus. In this experience, Jesus emphasized these words to him. You can watch it here  https://youtu.be/be3QzWhzV5s

Thank you Jesus, that our sins are forgiven by the blood of the lamb. But, even so, Jesus said it because it is important. Words are important.

Proverbs 18:21 KJV says “Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.”

Words kill, words give life; they’re either poison or fruit — you choose.

We need to remember, we are at war (Ephesians 6:12 says “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. ) controlling our words is part of being a good soldier. There is no need to give the enemy the upper hand because we are careless. And I believe this applies not only to the words we choose to say but the words we choose to listen to and entertain ourselves with as well.

Please pray with me that the people of God would learn to start using their words as a weapon for good. That we would help words manifest powerfully and wonderfully for the Lord’s purposes. Pray for God to open our eyes to the opportunities to speak life into each other’s lives and for discernment to identify and shut down all the areas where the enemy is using our tongues to spread death. Also, that we would shut down words and images used to spread evil disguised as entertainment.
