Genesis 29:20

Genesis 29:20
And Jacob served seven years for Rachel; and they seemed unto him but a few days, for the love he had to her.
I read this and it honestly shocked me. Seven years seemed like a few days for Jacob. Why? Because he loved Rachel. Rachel was worth it. He felt like he was getting a deal! Imagine that.
I can picture Kayla when she was around four years old. She had large eyes, chubby cheeks, and a curious mind. If i were to ask her to help me by going to get something from the other room, she would race off grinning ear to ear. Full of joy and eager to please me. It can be dismissed as the attitude of the very young but I believe that more than an attitude of youth it is an attitude of love. An eagerness and assurance that one is pleasing to others - even if only God himself. It is an attitude that will revitalize and energize our lives if only we will adopt it.
Does work seem hard? Does it feel like too much? I think we need to remember why we do things. For God. For our family. For love. Are they worth it? Are they worth going to work for? Are they worth cleaning the house for? Are they worth nursing to health during long sleepless nights? Are they worth being patient with? I think if we stop and think we will find that it is the least we can do for how precious our loved ones are. If we simply stop and get some perspective . . . Take the time and think about the love we have for them, then, I think that perspective will do wonders to lighten the weight of our burdens. It will make a 7 year job feel like a few days.
