Perfect Peace: Complaint Free World Day 11

Isaiah 26:3 KJV
Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.

Perfect peace. Doesn't that sound awesome? I think many of us, whether we realize it or not are searching for that peace, but we don't always go to the right place to find it.

It is easy to lose our peace and become fearful and anxious when we hear the news and about all the terrible things going on in the world. Or, even when we see our family member's and friends doing what we feel is wrong. But none of these things are too big for God.

God is the refining fire. He is the one that gives us the desire and the power to do what pleases him (Philippians 2:13). He has the ability to make right all that is wrong in the world. That is good news. It is not our job to make every thing and every one right. It is not our responsibility to right all the wrongs of the world.

When it comes to others we are just called to love them and, if we feel the need, pray for them. I think we lose a lot of peace when we take on responsibilities that were not ours in the first place. Someone you love may have addictions, or have a poor diet, or is not realizing there potential . . .whatever it is, it is not our job to nag them. It is okay to give them advice with love but ultimately we can't make anyone do anything. We can take it to God in prayer but even if they never change we know that God still loves them - and so can we.

I think of a sweet woman in my life. She has been smoking most of her life. She has emphysema and is severely impaired at life. Nagging, criticizing, asking lovingly - none of those things have done any thing to help. They just made her cling more adamantly to her right to do what she pleases. I have been praying for her on a daily basis and we have seen improvement in the last few weeks. This is huge! Honestly, I believe she would have done it a long time ago but addiction is something that is difficult to overcome in our strength. That is why I believe prayer has helped her. But even if she never changes we love her and certainly God does too.

Ultimately, if we never make the changes or goals we have imagined, there is peace in knowing that he loves us anyways.

Day 10 of the Complaint Free World challenge: I had a complaint free day! Yay!
